Breaking Language Barriers for travellers in China

Mochi Travel is a mobile app helping international travellers confidently explore China by overcoming language barriers. Using AI-powered translation, smart navigation, and booking support, the app simplifies complex travel experiences. Launched on the Apple App Store in 2024, it provides curated routes, insider tips, and cultural guidance in an intuitive, user-friendly format.

Challenge

Google maps and Apple maps are not that accurate in China, I don’t know what I can use.
Sometimes it takes a long time to figure out how to get a ticket, because you cannot just buy the tickets at the door
Everyone says Gaode Maps is amazing but it’s only in Chinese

Establishing the App Structure

Based on available technology at the time, for proof of concept and the MVP, I established the below App Structures in order to collaborate with an iOS App Engineer.

  • Clear and simplified user journey with the goal of launching MVP quick.

  • Utilising Material Design System for fast delivery, consistency and rapid iteration

  • User-centred UX: simple flows, clear iconography, and iterative testing with international travellers
